i know on the walkman you can adjust the volume using the + and - on the side but i have heared you can adjust the volume more somehow?

Are you talking about the Ring Volume? If So, go into the Settings menu, move across to Sounds and Alerts and the top option is Ring Volume. The maximum is 8
