Samsung E900

Hi - just got this phone and I'm a bit puzzled. Always had samsung phones and normally the clock is always on but when this phone not in use (even after a few seconds) the screen just goes blank. Can I set it so something stays on the screen, its a pain to find in my bag if nothing is lit up??

my d900 is the same. i think it is something to do with saving battery power.
