Does anyone remember a film from the late 70's early 80's featuring a man housebound in a wheelchair, watching the world through a telescope & seeing a brutal murder being committed in the appartment opposite. The murder was done under the cover of strange opera music. Any ideas please?

Are you sure the film was Australian? The plot you describe sounds very much like "Rear Window" by Alfred Hitchcock, starring Jimmy Stewart. I'm sure it's rear window.
That was my thought too Headtime. I'm sure the film has been remade at some time though, so maybe that was an Aussie effort.
As always the IMDB comes up trumps, it's been remade with Christopher Reeve. Doesn't look Australian though, here's the link so you could check it yourself http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0166322/

Thanks for your replies, sorry but I'm still on the search!! I'm pretty much certain it was Aussie & I cant recall any of the cast being as famous as Mr Stewart & Mr Reeve. There was a pretty curly haired nurse/carer looking after the main character & I seem to recollect a scene with the disabled guy watching her get undresssed!
