I downloaded a driver to make my canon Pixma ip1500 printer work on a vista computer . but trying to install it a box appeared and said dll file what program do you wish to open it with? I have not a clue ? any help welcome . Preferably one already on the computer or freeware.
Also the file I downloaded said add on driver for vista will this work on it's own or will it need the original non vista drivers as well ? Or does it mean buying a new printer?

Were there no install instructions?

I've yet to play with Vista so I'm assuming Vista drivers are installed the same way as XP.
It's very unusual for a driver to be only a .DLL file. There should have at the very minimum been a .INF file as well.
Are you sure that's all you have?

Hi Llamatron. Thank you for your reply. Sorry it took me so long to reply but I was trying to sort things out . I think what I was doing wrong was trying to install this add on driver with out installing the drivers on the printers original disc first. Once I had done this the new driver installed without hassle and I can now print again. Thank you once again.:-D

By the way there were no install instructions as far as I could see.It was a case of using what you knew and a bit of guess work.:-D
