Can somebody please enlighten me as to the relevance of part of the following clue?
5d We are absorbing lines, notice, being so learned? (4-4). Answer (presumably) .. Well Read.
The part of clue I am puzzled on is "notice" which I think provides the final letter "d". Bradford's Dictionary also shows "d" as being a possibility for "notice" but doesn't say why! I would be really grateful for an explanation. Thanks (S).

S I was trying to illustrate how just a plain D could be used by a setter !
