recently on a trip to germany the temperature was rugularly below 0c but i said to my fellow travellers that it felt not as cold as home when it is below 0C how could this be ?
It's to do with the amount of water vapour (humidity) in the air,and not just the temperature. You will have seen photos of people sunbathing in Switzerland or Austria when the air temperature is below zero, but only when there is no wind and no humidity.
At low temperatures, when water vapour is present, the air will cool you much more than when it is dry.
