It is a bustling centre of activity with lots of shops restaurants etc and much favoured by a younger clientele.
We went there many years ago and had a great time but confess that these days - grey hair etc - we prefer the quiet and seclusion of Puerto de la Cruz in N Tenerife or Corraljo in Fuerteventura.
If up for it stay and enjoy. If older hire a car and get around the island but keep the PR base.

me and my bf went end of may to early june last year (2006) it was RED HOT first couple of days then rest was hot but not sunny but when its hot its too hot, through the day its just normal not too quiet not too noisy, at night / day theres one big place called euthora (bad spelling!) centre where food, shops and pubs are as for noisy nights theres all types of pubs atmospheres from irish bars to spanish nightclubs, you can have difernt nights for what your into, its brill i loved it and would go back again and again, hope you have fun
You got two positives, now here is the negative. It is built into cliffs so most of the accommodation is uphill, and the majority of the shops are down the bottom. Go to maspolomas beach.. perfect and take a taxi to Playa des Inglis beach. Cost you about 8 euro.. or catch the bus.. Good transport system. Great amusement and shopping arcade at the YAMBO centre in Playa.. ENJOy.. I found Puerto a little more shabby than Playa or Maspolomas.. but your hol is what you make it. Have fun.. And when you get hit by the touts selling timeshare tell them you have only been with your partner for 6 months and they will leave you alone.. or tell them you stay in southern ireland...
