There's a great Australian expression of astonishment that makes no sense whatsoever: "F*** me roane" I think it might be an adeptation of the gaelic: "pouge mahone". Has anyone come across this one & if so what the hell does it mean?!
Can't help you out with the Australian expression but the Gaelic/Irish phrase that you seem to be referring to is 'pog mo thoin' which means 'kiss my ass'.
I'm not sure how you pronounce the word you offer as 'roane', but I wonder whether you might have misheard it for 'rotten'. With 'rotten' as the last word, I can assure you that in past years this was a common swear-phrase in Britain. Perhaps it has migrated Down Under since then.
Actually I did mean "pg mo thin" although I had no idea how to spell it! (or that it wasn't gaelic!) The other word in question : "Roan, Rone Rhone" or perhaps "Roane" rhymes with bone. Thanks!
