I am thinking about upgrading to Vista i have alot of software installed on my pc will it be compatible on vista? Also when up grading to vista do i delete my original windows files or does vista over write them automatically?

I posted before but worth repeating.
My Scanner won't work.
Steganos Security Suite , Nero 7, Acronis True Image ,Norton Ghost 10, Partition Magic 8, Dragon Naturally Speaking 9, Alcohol 120%, Tune Up Utilities 2007 all cause issues i.e crash.
That is a lot of money in Vista Compatible Versions because they are not going to be free. They are all making money out of this.

I think you should rephrase the question: "I am thinking of downgrading to Vista"
Here is a list of the advantages of Vista:
1. See through borders round the windows
Here is a list of the disadvantages:
1. Most of your hardware (even Vista Certified) won't work properly
2. You machine will be very slow
3. You will notice the drive thrashing away when you are doing nothing and won't know why
4. You'll get a few megs of patches and upgrades every day
5. Lots of the patches and upgrade will end up breaking things that were working
6. If you roll back, Vista will helpfully re-install them the next time you start up
7. If you install a Vista driver from a manufacturers site, and it works, the chances are that it will be overwritten within a few days by a Microsoft driver that doesn't work
8. You will find that you need to turn of all the pseudo-security- enhancements (endless pop-up windows asking you to confirm that it was indeed you, and not a hacker who just said you wanted to change your wallpaper, or something equally trivial).
Stick with XP or, if you really want to change your OS and hardware, go and test drive a Mac.
