Does anyone know if it's okay to start off my Gooseberry bush in a large pit until it gets strong enough to plant in the ground please? Ive bought one, and its really small so indoors at the mo, but when I put it outside, I'd love to have it in a pot until I know its strong enough to withstand the elements, and until I find out where it likes being the most. Thanks in advance x
Hi welshfox,
If you've kept it indoors for a while, it may have got used to the warmer conditions and might have produced some soft, tender growth.
I think the best thing to do is to acclimatise it to the outdoors gradually, in order not to shock it. Introduce it outside on milder days at first and bring it in again at night, just in case we get a sharp frost. Keep this up for a few weeks or until frosts are no longer forecast in it should be fine! Good Luck. Tbird+
