coming out of my drive i look both ways to see that there are no cars in either direction, i pull across the road to go
left direction if you are looking straight at my drive. a car coming out from t junction opposite my house doesnt anticipate that i am reversing and drives into the back of me, who is at fault, as he has assumed that i reversed into him and i assume he drove into the back of me, no police involvement as h esays its dual liability but has since come back with a quote from a garage for me to fix it.any ideas here?
There is no requirement for the police to be involved if you stopped after the accident and exchanged details with the other driver, regardless of whoever is liable for the accident.
As for deciding who is at fault, that is what your insurance provider is supposed to do. Failure to report the accident to your insurance company would also be a breach of the conditions of your policy.
I also think that there is a traffic law stating you are not allowed to reverse onto a main road!! you have to reverse in & drive out. I work in insurance and beleive the insurers would hold you responsible as you were entering a major road from a minor! sorry :-(
