Hacking via Wireless Router
2 Answers
I'm using a Belkin wireless modem/router with two computers. One computer is connected to the modem/router through an ethernet cable, while the other computer is in another room and is connected wirelessly.
At night, both computers and the modem/router are switched off but the ethernet cable is left connected to the computer in the same room as it.
I'm curious if it's possible for someone to hack into the cabled computer overnight even though everything is switched off.
I'm thinking along these lines because there seems to be so much in the press nowadays about broadband and it's "always on" features. Is my cabled computer really connected to the internet in this way even when off? Do I need to go to the extreme of remove the ethernet cable as well overnight or am I just be silly?
Sorry, I don't know much about all this!

I dont think that it can be hacked whist turned of but i am not sure as i only just have invested in wireless b/band.

Can a microwave cook food if it's not turned on? Does a washing machine clean clothes if there is no power? Will my Tivo record every episode of Eastenders if I don't plug it in (even if I do it wouldn't anyway, that show blows!) ...
My point... if you turn off your PC, unless you have "Wake-on-LAN" and leave the socket turned on nobody's getting near it, wired or not. Going the extra mile and turning off your modem/router, again.. no power.. no signal.. no connection..
If you want to be reallllly safe, pack the whole computer back up in bubble wrap and return it to the store you bought it from.. then, wear a tinfoil hat in case the aliens try steal your credit card details via telekenesis..
Sorry dude, but sounds like "neuron" is short for neurotic.. WPA protect your wireless connection, Don't have any "non-passworded" accounts on your PC and relax a little.. its all good.
