Its used in extreme cases where so much sediment has built up (through failure to install inhibitor in the system) that it can't be shifted by adding a litre or so of Cleanser and letting it work its way around the system by the internal pump over a few days dissolving the sediment. Cost about 20 for the chemicals, plus a few hours labour to drain-down the system afterwards. Has this been tried and failed?
Mate of mine was given a similar quote for flushing his central heating system. He told em to sod off and then got a local bloke to the job only to be told that it didn't need doing. He used a flushing fluid ( I dont know exactly what ) that cost about a fiver a bottle. Job done for fifty quid. No probs with his heating since!
My sister had her rads flushed (I think 9) by a local plumber in london and it was under 300. She has never looked back they all work beautifully now..And they came back about a week later to remove the stuff ( its a type of acid) they had flushed through. They said a lot of firms don't bother to do this, they just leave it in there...
