power flushing cost for central heating system

I have been given the cost of �869 for power flushing 13 radiators for central heating system in my bungalow. By British Gas is this fare price or should I others quotes

Its a lot of money. Are you satisfied that power flushing is necessary? Who told you? Its used in extreme cases where so much sediment has built up (through failure to install inhibitor in the system) that it can't be shifted by adding a litre or so of Cleanser and letting it work its way around the system by the internal pump over a few days dissolving the sediment. Cost about �20 for the chemicals, plus a few hours labour to drain-down the system afterwards. Has this been tried and failed?

We had a power flush done. Cost �300 for the system and 8 radiators. It was done as we were having Solar Power installed.
British Gas is a very expensive option.
Get 3 quotes always and in writing.

British gas BIG con men!!! They need the �869 to pay for their latest advert on telly mate, just a further con, their deals are full of ********************** get yourself a one man band plumber.

I agree with Trev. Local man, Buildersmate's method. Avoid British Gas.

Mate of mine was given a similar quote for flushing his central heating system. He told em to sod off and then got a local bloke to the job only to be told that it didn't need doing. He used a flushing fluid ( I dont know exactly what ) that cost about a fiver a bottle. Job done for fifty quid. No probs with his heating since!

My sister had her rads flushed (I think 9) by a local plumber in london and it was under �300. She has never looked back they all work beautifully now..And they came back about a week later to remove the stuff ( its a type of acid) they had flushed through. They said a lot of firms don't bother to do this, they just leave it in there...
