Caught Speeding On Motorway
6 Answers
I was caught speeding saturday evening on the M5 doing 100.8mph on their in car speedo thing (the bridge to bridge over 2 miles thing?) im not disputing it in anyway just wandering what punishment it likely would be as it was so close to the 100mph limit that alot of people mention, i have 3 points from 2005 and have been driving for 4 years with 4 years no claims discount too, im 24. Ive heard its 4-5 points and a fine or 3 months disqualified, do you get a choice of punishment or anything?

If they don't want to push the 0.8 then the fine's the same but it's 4-5 points.
Best guess (?) 5 points and a fine - you won't lose your no claims bonus because you're not making a claim but your premium will go up quite a bit.
My experience is that many insurance companies are OK about one or two sets of 3 points from a camera but doing a ton on the M5 is likely to make them a bit twitchy about the sort of driver that you are.

Thanks for that , any other replys would be appreciated. Also a quick one following on from that , what would be the situation say, i was given a 21 day ban and a fine , what happens with my insurance would i just let it run and drive again 21 days after or inform them or inform them on my next renewal?
Should be a ban for life. Take away your licence and tear it up.
Might be a big thrill to do that speed but do you realise how many people have lost sons, daughters, fathers, mothers killed by ejits like you
Something goes wrong and what started as a big laugh ended up a disaster because you were incapable of controlling a vehicle at thet speed. Four years experience? you are still a novice.

Hi,
Im not excusing myself saying i have 4 years experience and my heart goes out to all those people who hav lost people but im not one of these idiots who drives when banned, no insurance tax etc or do 60mph down a 30mph busy road , i got stopped on a empty, dry M5 at 10pm , i would only cause injusry to myself at the end of the day , no excuses but you cant tarnish everyone with the same stick , i deserve my punishment but it should be punishment based on your crime , not puishment blamed on the whole situation.
