My son who is 19 keeps suffering with mouth ulcers. Does anyone know if its a vitamin deficiency? Sometimes he has trouble eating because his mouth is really sore. Any advice would be appreciated x

i'm not sure exactly but i always get mouth ulcers when i'm coming down with a cold so i would guess its to do with your immune system.

why doesnt your son start taking multi-vitamins for a while to see how this helps?

Thanks MiniN for your reply, I forgot to say that he has been taking multi vitamins for about a month now and he has just started taking zinc tablets. Today he came home for lunch and he said that his tongue feels swollen at the back.
perhaps he should go to the doctors, he might have some sort of bacteria or virus causing it? could he be having an allergic reaction to something like food or drink?

i would suggest that he goes to the docs asap if its starting to affect his tongue too.
It could be a few different things, one of which is a vitamin deficiency. Another thing it could be is a symptom of stomach problems, such as an ulcer. If the vitamins arent working after this time it may well be something like that
I had the same problem when I was around 14/15.

I found it was down to some of the following:
*A slight lack of generally good nutrition
*Stress
*And was told by a herbal person it was primarily down to a lack of Vitamin B and I took Vit. B supplements for a short time.

Hi Bird
I used to suffer terribly with mouth ulcers until I was advised to use the following : ADCORTYL IN ORABASE (Available over the counter from chemists) ointment and Vitamin B complex tablets. The ointment isn't very pleasant but believe me it really works. I took the tabs for 6 months and the ulcers are no more !! That was about 10 years ago - I haven't had one since. Hope this helps

Thanks for all your advice. My son went to the doctors today and he was given a prescription for some Corlan Pellets which you let dissolve on the ulcer. He also had a blood test. Thanks once again x
