90's indie song help

there's a song I really want to know the title/artist of but it's a bit obscure. It was on one of those free cd's given away with Melody Maker (could have been NME or one of the others) about 1997-1999ish. It was by an indie type band with both a male and female singer. Some of the lyrics were 'and we've negotiated our way around some tricky situations and you've played me all your favourite songs and I've played you all of mine'. I've tried googling lyrics etc and not come up with anything. anyone got any ideas, even vague ones.

Oooh yes, Whistler were quite good if you're into that kind of bedsit indie stuff. Worth investigating!
