I had the Mirena coil fitted about a month ago and have had uncomfortable abdominal cramps since plus feeling very hormonal and hungry!!! Now I have sharp pains in my left breast too. I have just been back to my FP Clinic where they gave me a pregnancy test and checked everything was ok and that the coil was in the right place which it was. However, even though I've been told there is nothing wrong I still don't feel right and I know it's only been a month. I'm terrified of putting on weight since I have been quite large since having my son 6 years ago and have never really regained my figure. I feel quite dizzy sometimes too and had I not had a pregnancy test I would say I felt pregnant. I've read up on this coil and now feel quite worried about all the things I've read. I can't get on with the pill at all and don't know what other options I would have for contraceptive. Shall I give it a little while longer? I'm not in any huge pain or anything but don't feel great either. Any comments please ladies? Many thanks. Oh I'm 36 with one child. Ta.

Well I did it last night!!!!
I finally took the plunge, got some tweezers relaxed on a towel on the bed (cos remembered the blood from having it put in), found the end of wire and gently pulled with a nice steady and calm constant flow, thinking it was going to hurt soon, then realised it was actually out, I did not even feel a pull, I could not believe it came out so easily and pain free, i am even more convinced now that it was not meant for me, the pain and bleeding it has caused me I wish I had taken it out sooner.I did not even need a towel, i did not bleed at all, i took a couple of paracetomol afterwards just in case, i did start to have a few very mild cramps through the night, but nothing to what they were.
I have just started to have a few mild period cramps and a slight bleed tonight, i presume this will be a period, with retracting the hormones, (I have obviously stopped my estrogen patches )if so, I expect it to get a little worse before getting better for a few days, then i am looking forward to a few days with out having to wear sanitary towels as I have had to live in them the past 5.5months.
I was surprised how big it was, still cant believe i did not feel a thing, I will no doubt have to be honest when i do see my dr next.

Although this seemed the right thing for me to do, it is not something i would normally have done.
I do not recommend that any of you try this, it is always best to seek medical advice.
Hi sleepfairy,

No I can't recommend what you did, but franky hun, I don't blame you. Mine coming out was a bit of a shock, but I really didn't think that that dangling wirey thread was my coil, so just tugged. The pain was nothing, it was all the blood that made me woosy and realising what I had just done.
It is surprisingly big isn't it - no wonder it hurts so much when they put it in, reckon they do it sideways just through spite (lol).
I wasn't sure what to do with it once it came out, as they are always banging on about how much it costs. Thought they may want it back to pop it back in again or re-cycle (yuk).
Having a coil fitted always used to be a 'general anesthetic' job when they were copper. I was assured that Mirena didn't hurt to be fitted. They lie.

Hope you find another, less comfortable means of contraception. Keeping mine in and ignoring the symptoms means I no longer need contraception, glad you are now looking at less severe means.

Remembering back, I bled when I had sex and also it was uncomfortable, as if my womb was being thumped.

Please let me know what you decide, and don't overlook the possibility of fibroids. They are easily removed when they are small, and often don't even grow, the only external indication to us women is the amount of bleeding each month.

Good luck hun.
sleepyfairy...You did it!...OMG....soooooo brave!...I can't believe it....And it didn't hurt...
If the cramps continue go to your GP though...

oceanauk...sleepyfairy pulled hers out!!!

porfavour.....What a horrible time of it you've had......Have you read sleepyfairy. posting?

Hi Tilly, read it and replied. It would be really bad of me to say she was right.......but I can think it.
I think you are all wonderful to have shared this thread, it's certainly helped me to understand what happened to me.
I hope it doesn't happen to any of you, get heavy bleeding checked. It's really not normal to have heavy periods when you hit your thirties.
God bless.
Oh my god, Sleepyfairy, I just read your question from January.
We are just quinea pigs.
Get those damn things out girls!
porfavour...I think we are guinea pigs...just like previous generations of women with 'The Pill'...and now HRT.I hope we are all a small minority who have had problems with this...
(re..Your posting in the tatto link...what happened?....I think you have been truly reprimanded!...Go and stand in the corner...lol.lol)

Are there any women out there who are perfectly happy with their Mirena coil... please let us know so we can get some prospective on this..

sleepyfairy...How are you today?

Tilly
perspective...ooppss
The nurse finally phoned me today for an appointment, I explained to her what i had done and that i was having what was like a proper period, she got in touch with a local dr for advice and phoned me back again, he had recommended i make a follow up appointment with a female dr next week just as routine to check if i need future help with problem periods, so I chose a different one who i had seen as helpful at the start of my problems, he also advised that i could take ibuprofen to control the blood flow if it increases and to get straight back to them if any other problems between now and next week, which was sound advice, they said the excessive bleeding was probably down to me abrutely withdrawing the hormones internally as well as externally, which is what I thought.
I thought they were going to be funny towards me knowing i had pulled it out, but they were very understanding.
Will keep you all posted on the outcome, OH and the spots that were starting to erupt on my face that would have broken literally went down overnight!!!
So far so good.
Porfavour - did giggle at the recycle bit, was wondering if I could sell mine on ebay. LOL
