My gas bill has been estimated by 13th Dec when the last flat tenant moved out. My first bill has just arrived and I nearly had a heart attack at only 30.... it's for 183!!!!

I have the heating on for half an hour at 6am when I get up, I leave the house and don't arrive back home until 6 - 6.30pm, at which I admittedly have the heating on until approx. 10-12 wheni go to bed....

Is this normal for 2.5 months?! My electric from the same company, over the same 2.5 months was only 43!!!!!

I forgot to add that I live in a smallish modern 2 bed flat (well, one is a tiny box-room), I DON'T have a fireplace, I use the gas oven to cook (but hey, how much can that cost per meal?) although I think it's a combi-boiler, because everytime I switch on the heating, the boiler seems to come alive and the water is scalding hot, but theres no way to do one without the other.....
Did you keep meter readings from when you first moved in?Firstly, DO NOT pay the bill, take a reading of the gas meter now, phone your supplier, give them the reading and ask for an updated bill.
I've just had a 6 month battle with British Gas, my 1st bill was over 500,(the actual bill should have been 44) they threatened to cut off the supply, send in the bailiffs with police escort and welcomed me as a new customer.
Many letters and much angst later it has just been resolved, energy watch helped a lot.Stick to your rights!!

Forgot to remind you to make a note of the date, time and name of anyone you speak to regarding your supplier, never take anyone at their word.
Wonder why Cleversod has that handle?
