I've just bought a diesel engined car. It is possible to use the same petrol can that I used once and is currently empty?
I don't want to contaminate the engine on my new car by mixing any residual petrol with diesel. I know that a new can wouldn't cost that much but it seems a waste to get rid of it if it can be used as it is or can be cleaned up in some way.
I've heard that a little bit (ie, the slight dregs left in a petrol can) diluted in a 50 litre tank of diesel aren't going to make a whole lot of difference. Its when you do the schoolboy error of putting a whole tank's worth in that it gets costly.
TBH, if you're in any doubt, get a new one and ask if any of your friends / relatives want a cheap / free petrol can.
