Ebay buyer not happy
7 Answers
I sold a New Camcorder on Ebay. The person did not use the BUY IT NOW option for some good reason but they decided to transfer the money to my PAYPAL Account. The money went through no problems. This meant that the sale was outside Ebay. The person received the Camcorder but is now complaing about one thing or another. If this person makes a complaint, would I need to refund them even though it did not go through Ebay etc.

If one of you were to contact Ebay on the matter you might both have your accounts terminated so you better hope he doesn't complain.
You might have to refund him just to stop him "telling on you"
However, he may still be able to claim his money back through PayPal so have a look on their website and see what it says as it depends how he sent the payment through, i.e. was it for "goods"?

Don't you dare refund him! This sounds like a bullying tactic by someone who is well aware that they bent the rules. If you have done everything you can to make the transaction successful then just ignore him and he'll almost certainly go away. If the item didn't arrive and you got proof of postage then email a copy to him (don't send the original!!!) and he can take it up with the mail, once it is posted it is not your responsiblity. The only other way he can try and get money is through paypal, but if they didn't cover the transaction then you have no obligation to pay him from your own pocket.
And never mind about not selling through ebay, if you set up the sale there and offered a buy it now option then you can always plead ignorance - someone bought it and a payment appeared in your paypal account, how were you to know he'd not done it "officially"???

You won't be able to claim ignorance. If your sale was through Ebay and paid through PayPal it shows on your ebay account.
I wouldn't want to refund him either but you've put yourself in an awkward position and he could report you if he wants to.
fairkatrina - the buyer cannot make a claim with the post office with or without the original proof of postage - that would be the seller's responsibility. No one can make a claim with a photocopy or scanned receipt either

I know but the seller can send a copy to shut him up. I gather from what's been said that the item has arrived and the buyer is just moaning. And I only mean plead ignorance of the fact that the buyer didn't use the proper channels, not ignorance of the transaction etc. But this is all academic, because the buyer doesn't have a leg to stand on and I doubt very much he will take it further.
