my son is going to majorca for 2weeks in may,his passport runs out in september, his been told his got to have 6months left on it on return to uk, does anyone know whether this is true? thanks
He's been told rubbish. For the EU his passport just needs to be valid.
In fact for Spain it can be up to a year out of date - but I wouldn't want to rely on that with airport checkin staff who probably won't know this twist to the rule.
The Home Office gives general advice that a passport should be valid for 6 months after the date of your return. This is because some countries make this requirement.
However the Spanish Embassy on their website state that for British travellers the passport should be valid for 90 days after the date of your return.
Check with the company your son has booked with as some travel operators stipulate the six month rule as a condition for travel
