hi all, i have a pyracantha, the black birds are eating all the berries, while i enjoy watching them, will this harm the bush, or will the berries return next year. when is the best time to prune it. thanks any advice appreciated.
The plants flowers they get pollunated and develop seeds which are contained in the berries. This happens every year. Very often the seeds pass through the bird and are carried to fields anew to spread the plant. Clever plant.
I prune my pyracanth bushes as soon as the birds have eaten all the berries and well before the Spring shoots start to appear again around March. It grows very quickly in spring so don't worry about pruning it hard back at this point if it has become too vigorous. . The white flowers appear around May and new berries will start appearing from the flowers shortly afterwards.
