Universal Carbon Cooker hood Filters

I am just about to replace an old cooker hood with something more modern and faced of course with having a piece of the exhaust concertinaed tubing showing(in part at least)above the wall kitchen cupboards.
However I have just found out that one should be able to fit carbon filters to hoods and thus do away with the tubing.
Do I fit this carbon filter onto the hole onto which I would normally fit the bendy tubing? Or is it a more complex thing needed.
It is my understanding that all odours(in theory anyway)are removed by the carbon and therefore it would be necessary to replace the filter at regular intervals.
Any info/help would be appreciated.

What kind of extractor is it? The charcoal fiter is accessed through the suction vent area of your extractor, This could be removed in one of sevaral ways depending on the style of extractor. Some makes supply a filter ready fitted which would then need to be removed if you were to vent out. Others do not supply the filter and you need to then order it as a spare part direct from the manufacturer by quoting your extractor seril number which is on a sticker inside the extractor housing.Alternatively you could try asking whoever you baught it from to order one for you. once you have gained access inside the casing it is usually obvious and very simple to fit the filter. Circulating is only about 70-75per cent as efficient as venting out and would require replacement about every 6 months, so the latter would be my first choice

Just to add- you can buy the solid vent pipe and fittings from your local DIY superstore, which look much neater than the flexible pipework and are designed to sit tidily on top of your wall units. Very simple to install.

Paul. The system has a venting tube and a metal filter which is rectangular in shape. Now I don't really see how this metal filter serves much purpose. Am I supposed to to lay strips of carbon paper on the top side or just clean it when it is greasy or fit say a round filter elsewhere!!!!

I presume you use one or the other. It sounds as if the metal filter is washable, but i can't see any use for it if you vent out. what make is the hood?

I bought it form B&Q. It is a Pemium HDG60SS but where the manufacturers website is I don't know.
It is listed on the following: www.caio.co.uk. Nice looking piece of kit made of stainless steel and curved glass.
I have sent an email to B&Q but am still awaiting a reply.

I think know the type of extractor you mean, ive fitted quite a few. The filter is definately accessed from underneath by removing the washable filter or filters. there should be a small visible finger catch. I still dont know what the other metal filter which you mentioned earlier is?The charcoal filters are always fitted inside the housing and not on the outlet pipe.
