internet explorer ver 7.0.5730.11

Hi have a real annoying problem with internet explorer,when I close a sub window from the web page i am viewing it closes all window and exits explorer.Just started this i haven t installed or altered anything new.
Anybody any suggesions. o/p is XP home edition computer is a toshiba satellite laptop..

Do a virus and spyware check first

if you don't have both get them now!!!!!!!
avg is free - adaware and spybot search and destroy are also free (use google)

the two main places to look are in menu
tools | Internet options | and then go to ...
general - tabs - Settings switch off tabbed browsing .... restart ie7
if no good
Try reseting the tab options

if that is no good

Go to the tools | Internet options | Advanced tab
there are two reset options here also restore advanced settings - try this first
if not hit the reset button on the same page

remember to re-start ie7 everytine you change options
if all the above fails you'll have to download and reinstall/repair ie7

Or, as IE7 is just a rather poor copy of Firefox, you could just switch to the genuine article.
