how many c-sections

after a 2nd difficult labour i had to have another cesarean, which means if i have any more children i'd have to deliver this way again. a frriend told me you cant have any more than 3 cs. does anyone know if this is true??

I've had 3 elective caesarians (all my babies were transverse breech and I had placenta praevia) and I was told 3 was the limit.

So you mean that somebody can actually dictate to you the number of children you are "limited" to have?
That seems so unfair to me. I understand it from the aspect of your and Baby's health, and of course nothing else matters, but to be told "that's it, you've reached you limit??

How did that make you feel? I think it's awful..

Given that I had one ectopic pregnancy, two 'missed' abortions and four miscarriages, even one baby would have been wonderful. I count myself so very lucky to have had 3 healthy gorgeous kids. It never entered my head to think of the advice of my obstetrician as 'unfair'. I've been blessed and I give thanks every day of my life!

a friend of mine has had 3 and is expecting her 4th by c-sect.

She was told by one consultant that he wanted to sterilise her after this baby but she refused. Another consultant has told her he sees no reason why she cant continue having c-sections.

Perhaps its an individual choice of the surgeons / consultants as more work is involved with each subsequant section and maybe a longer recovery time.

if you are pregnant what are they going to do? its got to come out somehow

I had a section first and was told if I had an elective second I would have to have a third and last section. I suppose that they Reccomend that is the limit but if you get pregnant it does have to come out. Some time the consultants have to decide when you are putting yourself and baby at risk and have to point out the facts but they cant stop you.
I was not forced to have my first section but was advised to for the sake of my health and that of my baby. I am personally not in the habit of disregarding medical advice. However some women have no problem with 4 sections.
I think the phrase is "calculated risk"

My SIL had her 4th C-section in January, they reopened the last scar.

They can advise not to have more than 3, however what would they do if you are on your 4th preganancy and need a section - refuse?

My auntie has had 4 c sections and on the last one they gave her a mini tummy tuck as they cut away all the previous scar tissue and stiched her back together.
I think it is just recommended that you dont have any more than 3 but as joko said what are they going to do if you are pregnant!!
