'Afternoon, all! :o)

I'm trying to find the death records (free, preferably) of a man named Edgar Isaac Seligman, and I'm having real trouble doing it. I know that he was born on the 14th April 1867, was a professional artist and on the Olympic Fencing team. I know he lived in Kensington later on, too. I don't suppose anyone might be able to tell me where I can find out anymore about him, please?

I'd also love to be able to find out more about his paintings, but that doesn't appear to be that easy, either.

You can search the death indexes for free on at http://www.ancestry.co.uk - assuming he died in England of course. Unfortunately you have to trawl through year by year, quarter by quarter so if you have no idea when he died, it could take a while!

He married in the Oct nov dec quarter in st Marylebone
volume 1a page 1285
to either Lily Hetty Borg-Inner,Georgette Mosenthal or Alice H S Mosenthal, I can't tell which one without moer fuss because they are all on the same page.
I can't find a death recoprd in the UK either, although I only had a quick look, but he';s listed in London phone books until 1963, when the listing changes to Mrs Edgar Seligman, so looks like he died 1961/62 ish.
I will continue to look.

found him living at 2,Collingham Gdns, Kensington in 1929. His phone number was Kensington 0027 Lol.

Scrub that suggestion of early 60's, he died in 1934.

Wow! Thank you so much, nox! You're an absolute star. My nan knew him in the early 50's when he would shop in the chemist she worked in, in Kensington. He was quite elderly then, but asked if he could paint her portrait and they were good friends from then on. She kept the painting for many years, but a 'friend' of hers gave it away when it was stored in her attic, as my nan moved house. It was spotted by another of her friends on a street seller's stall in London, but it had gone by the time they'd gone back.

I think you were right about him dying in the early 60's, nox and that he was 'actively' painting until 1934. It sounds about the right time. According to the 1881 England Census, he was born in San Francisco, so perhaps he also died abroad?
