It's not widely known, but all the shenanigans that surround the US celebrations of Hallowe'en come from Irelands reluctance to celebrate Guy Fawkes' night!

They wanted an excuse for a celebration to rival GF, (they couldn't celebrate the execution of a Catholic plotter, could they?), so they opted for Halloe'en.

Irish emigrants took it to the US, where it was hyped to extremes, as Americans do. Now it's just another profit line for UK traders. In my childhood 50+ years ago it was unknown.

vhelpfulguy: the answer bank is a useful site which provides the opportunity for people to answer questions that they know of the top of their heads; not to correct spellings! a simple grammer error, 6 other people seemed to know what i went , and answered the question relevantly ... thats every one! i was just wondering.
