Does washout hair die tain hair?

Not worth risking if you're concerned about it. My little sister's was light brown, she dyed it to dark red/maroon? (36 wash or something) about 3/4 months ago, and although it's faded it's never gone back to it's original colour. She didn't mind at all, because she just wasn't allowed to dye it permanent. Someone else I know used a very short life dye, however, and their hair was fine. If it's only for one night/party then I'd use the fastest washing out one you can find if you're worried about long-term colouring. Use high quaility products too, and I wouldn't reccoment Schwarzkopf for colour matching.
