how to get an autograph off Eric Clapton?
5 Answers
...okay,before you write me off as a 'nutter', hear me out...I plan to go see Eric Clapton on 2April this spring in Kansas City, Missouri . It also happens to be my big '5-0' birthday :) I've been a fan of his for a long time. Apart from getting to go to his concert, my wish would be to be able to get an autograph...Any help would be appreciated!

EC is, and always has been, an intensely private man. He doesn't mix with his fans at all either before or after gigs, and he is likely to be spirited away straight after the show, and his hotel location will be seriously guarded - as will his privacy once booked in.
I know that it would make your birthday, but you suffer from being a fan of one of the most private, elusive, and downright miserable musicians on the planet!

I know what Andy Hughes means - I once went to a Paul McCartney party at which Clapton was approached in the VIP area by an autograph hunter and he went absolutely ballistic. However, I've also attended a Bunburys charity cricket match at which he was signing everything offered to him. I suggest you try contacting Clapton's old mate David English via the Bunburys website http://www.bunburys.co.uk and see if he can help you.
i know a guy who years ago went to his house and EC invited him in. Not only did he leave him on his own in his house while he dropped his wife/gf off somewhere but he left him an album (cant remember what one) that wasnt relised yet to listen to till he came back.
On a completly diff occasion i acquired a signed photo of him wearing a very very bad photo.

I have got an autograph from EC on a couple of occasions at the Royal Albert Hall, he generally arrives for his soundcheck there at around 4.30pm, at the RAH in them days, he had to get out of his car and walk in whilst someone parked his car, now I believe there is underground parking. If there are only a couple of people there, he will generally sign.
I also got a signed photo from his office when I whinged to my girlfriend at the time that I had missed out on an autograph on another occasion, so she wrote to his management saying how hard it was to live with me, and they sent back 2 signed pics.
Dont expect to get one after the show though, EC generally leaves the building before the last note has died away.
I see your Welsh, me too, pity Andy Fairweather Low isnt still with EC, the time I got my Autograph from EC, I saw AFL arrive around lunchtime, on hearing my Welsh accent he was very helpful in telling me where and when EC would arrive.

Had another thought, as a Welshman, this might help, the guy who works the sound desks is called Robert Collins and is from Neath, explain your situation to him, he might help a fellow Welshman. I have to admit he wasn't very forthcoming in the RAH (although he did give me a set list which made lots of people jealous!) but if he thinks you've travelled half the world for this, who knows? What's the worst that can happen?
