Should people who smoke be refused treatment on the NHS?
I think people should be refused treatment on the NHS who smoke. Why as a non smoker should I have to pay for someone who damages themselves at the expense of my treatment. Its wrong, the tax they collect off tobacco doesn't cover the costs and most tobacco is imported now anyway!! What do you think?

If you were doing that every time you ride a bike people wouldn't do it. With STD there isn't a massive health warning on some womens bits saying lick this and you might get an STD or a bloke ++++ saying suck this and you might get crabs. There is no visable signs here where as every time u pick up a pack of fags then there is a health warning. As for sporting injuries clubs should have insurance for all their players. It would be safer then
I think the lesson that needs to be learnt here is that everything that could possibly harm you or god forbid cause you to seek NHS treatment should carry a health warning!!!!!
Then I think we tax everyone even more to provide funding to add the additional health warnings to everything!
This answer is about as pathetic as the question!
It makes me so angry to think that a human being would deny another human treatment - no matter what the circumstances.

The NHS was set up to treat anyone in need, no exceptions. Ok you may not like drinking, smoking, cars or whatever but the tax generated by these activities more than covers the cost of the NHS
Everybody whether they are a newborn baby or someone over 100 years old should be treated exactly the same.
I think it would be more to the point if these doctors who make these proposals didnt turn a blind eye to the fact that a recent report stated that as many doctors smoke now as they did years ago
To my mind the question ought to be why doctors wages increased in one go by up to 100% and yet they stopped doing home visits, Night call outs, Saturday Morning Surgeries, and often require two weeks notice of illness before an appointment can be made
The Greed of Many Gps in reducing their services has resulted in a 30% increase in 999 ambulance callouts and more than a 25% increase in A&E patients because the patients own doctor is to lazy to come out to treat the patient
An average wage of 160,000 a year for 3 days work and no call outs? That should be the real question thats being asked and not who should be refused treatment
