Passports

A member of my family had his passpost renewed in the past year and the new one has a chip in it. How long will it be before all passports must have this chip?

Mine was renewed last year and does not have a chip, so will mine last until it runs out or will it need to be replaced with a chipped one before this?

all new passports will be issued with the new chip,so if you work it out,within the next 10 yrs or less all passports will be of the chip kind,it is planned that the USA will only take chip passports very soon.

unless there's a change of plan you won't have to get a new one till your current one runs out; the next one will have the chip. You only just missed out last year.
