A woman who sent a series of explicit text messages to a 13 year old boy has been spared from going to jail, partly because programmes for sex offenders are aimed solely at men.

Do you think she would have been treated differently if she was a man? Do you think society in general is less inclined to condemn abuse on under age males by females?

Your Question..........would she have been treated differently if it had been a man? Yes i think almost certainly, however not necessarily with a custodial sentence, a man would certainly have been put on the sex offenders list (and rightly so) these days its sad to say that very few crimes acheive prison sentences as there is usually some pathetic excuse, ie prisons are full, no man power, not in the interest of the offender blah blah blah so in effect this woman has 'got away with it' apart from the shame etc.. the poor kid will probably be traumatised for a very long time, and her being on the sex offenders list cant possibly make that much difference? Saying these 'Prison Programmes' are geared mainly at men, is probably true as women sex offenders are much more rare, however i dont blame the family involved for feeling let down, i do also think that they have been................and badly
I frequenly bore people on this site with my rants about equality for women and I see no difference in this case.

If she had been male, certain procedures would have been set in motion. The fact she is female should be no barrier to such punishment, even if it means her attending therapy sessions with male paedophiles.

Women are just as capable of grooming young boys as male paedophiles. Boys of 12 and 13 are very often less mature than girls of the same age, so it could be argued they are in need of more protection, rather than less.
If Miss Ward or Miss Petch had sent me explicit text messages when I was 13 (had we had mobiles in the mid-80s) I'd've absolutely loved it.

They. Were. Gorgeous.

Was the only time I ever looked forwar to maths and physics.

And if a teacher now sent explicit texts to your 13 year old daughter, would you 'absolutely loved it' ?
Oh no, absolutely not - but then I'm full of contradictions!
Of course there's a double standard in society. Look at the lack of outcry over the Nicole Kidman movie 'Birth' where she has an adult relationship with a little boy - imagine that being reversed so that it was, say, Tom Cruise and a 10 year old girl...

Course, when I was a teenager I'd have happily had my (female) maths teacher...!
Of course there is bias in the Criminal Justice System.

Nearly all the senior posts in the CJS are held by
educated, middle-class men, with educated, middle
class attitudes to women. This means that two distinct
models are in operation:
The Chivalry model, and
The Evil Woman model
The former sees women as the fairer sex; up there
on a pedestal they can do little wrong, but can easily
be led astray by evil men. Since they commit far
fewer cimes than men, and less serious ones too,
they deserve greater leniency.

The latter, the 'Evil Woman', is one who maliciously
ignores the feminine conventions, proving herself
to be unwomanly, and deserves to be treated as a
man. Myra Hindley was a good example. She served
the equivalent of 3 or 4 life sentences because she behaved in a way far-removed from the typical
stereotype of 'the gentler sex'.
She should have been banged up with all the other nonce beasts. Get rid of the segregation and let the cons beat the ***** out of them . Or hang the mongrels.
