Does it matter that my surname on my driving licence is clearly different to my signature on the licence?

How different? Another name might cause suspicion or confusion but at the end of the day your signature is your mark and could just as well be an illegible squiggle or an X
Not sure if it is a legal document but this begs another question - why are they different? How did DVLA miss it? If the signature is not the same the implication is that it is not your licence. If you are using two names why not sign it with the same name? If the signature does NOT matter why are we required to sign it? What could make a difference if you want to use as proof of id for example when opening a bank account, if the person dealing with you notices it.

Thanks for the replies. The two names are very different, Lets say for an example that my maiden name was Lemon and my married name Cat, that is how different they are. No letters in my maiden name match my married name.
When i contaced DVLA about it they said it was something that has happened alot and if i want it changed then send it back with a cover letter.
