Can anyone help with my last answer on today's Herculis please? I'm completely stuck:

8a - Solidarity leader (6)

I have ?A?E?A and those letters all seem fine.

Many thanks. That was jolly quick! I've never heard of the word before and it doesn't even appear in my dictionary!

You must be too young. At the time I doubt you could have failed to hear about Lech(k) ? Walesa.

Not sure about being too young as I'll be 42 this September (although I don't look it!) but I've read the article mentioned in an earlier reply and certainly don't remember anything at all about Walesa. It couldn't have made much news at the time.
