At my place of work, the following would be used: after 12 midnight, good morning, after 12 noon, good afternoon, after 5pm, good evening.

I've always thought evening begins at 6pm.

I'm a bit confused, bodydy2k. Would anyone object to people saying "good evening" at your place of work before 5pm? Or good afternoon after?
