Rights at work - parking costs

My boyfriend drives to work every day and also uses his car for business use, his employer pays him 40-50p per mile to cover petrol and wear and tear on the car but refuses to pay his parking fees (As there is no allotted space for him to park near to the business, even though there are for other employees)

Is this right, or does the employer have to cover parking costs as well?

I don't think so - its your boyfriend's choice to park where he does. We've got the same things at my place, unless you want to pay �63 a month for a voucher to park in the nearest NCP carpark, then you have a 20 minute walk to the nearest free parking in a residential area. They pay 40p per mile also, but if I need to go to another city for a meeting or something, then I do put in that parking voucher for a rebate. Unless the employer is particularly generous in the drafting of their Employment Contracts, I don't think you'll find many who pay towards staff "getting to work costs". Sorry.
That mileage rate (in the view of the Inland Revenue and probably his employer as well) is sufficient to cover parking fees as well as petrol and wear and tear, not to mention insurance road tax etc.

The employer is not obliged to meet any costs at all so your boyfriend is quids in.
I'm in the same situation. Employer pays 40p per mile for travelling on business but it costs me �4.30 per day to park my car as there is no staff parking.
