For my Geography alevel, I did a survey of shoppers visiting my local Waitrose store, I found out where they came from to the store(lived), how often they visited, how many members of the family, their 'rough; age range etc etc.
I did the survey over 1 week, I went and did the surveys 3 times a day morning, afterneoon and evening, for 30 mins each and I also took traffic checks outside in the carpark. Noted number occupants, registration letter (show age) and model.
I was then able to show how many people visited, what times were peak times, which times certain shoppers came in, where people came from to shop there - showed local map and marked on where people came from, formed 360 map/graph to show in which direction most shoppers lived/came from ie those who had good road networks were regular shoppers and came more often.

oh sorry completely misunderstood question thought you meant final year project etc.
By dissertation you mean a formal essay or argument
I always loved plate techtonic's so I would maybe look in the movements of the plates since first recorded to see what will happen in the future. What future geographical features are going to 'pop up' in the future - the odd island or volcano maybe, where are the hot spots/rings of fire etc
