Does anyone have a good old-fashioned remedy for cleaning showerheads? I've tried all the usual brand names, but they don't seem to work that well. Where I live there is hard water leaving large amounts of scale.
If you get fed up cleaning them B&Q sell shower heads with small rubber jets in them - if they block you just rub your thumb over the jet and that will break off any scale on it - I never have to take mine off and soak them.
I second vinegar. It makes limescale peel off like rubber after soaking overnight - very weird but satisfying! It's also great for getting rid of limescale round taps - fill a bag with kitchen towels soaked in vinegar and wrap tightly round the tap. Leave overnight and the next day the build-up peels off without damaging the tap. Was going to get new taps then heard of this tip. Now they are like new. Magic!
