I've been watching the news and George Bush is doing thing to stay in the White House....its like a music festival, everyone is happy, banners, cheering. How come the Americans celebrate the Polititians when all the British do is accuse them of having affairs and think they are liars? How come the British dont hold big party type events when Tony Blair wants to be elected?

Maybe Americans are just more passionate about politics than Britons.
Well, all the mainstream UK party conferences are increasingly like the style over substance approach of the US, but we're not quite so dumbed down yet. But then, nor are we that far off.
How can we celebrate politicians? Scourge of the earth the majority of them.
because even the most fervent of UK politicians and their supporters just aren't that willing to look like to$$ers on such a massive scale. They know we know they fake sincerity at the best of times. Did you actually see the whole thing with his daughters (underage drinking anyone?) his wife and him, all introducing each other? The words cringeworthy and toe-curling spring to mind as being too euphemistic! We're heading that way tho......WaldoMcFroog is so right.
Cos Americans are stoopid. It's been proven by scientists that they always, without fail, vote for whoever has the best streamers.
Because they remember the time Neil Kinnock was all set to win an election and end Tory rule. But the night before a triumphal rally seemed too much for the British electorate...
It's not "the Americans" who are celebrating their politicians; it's the hierarchy and elite of the two main parties. Ordinary American people on the streets or on the Clapham omnibus are just as negative and apathetic about politicians as the rest of us - probably more so.
The Americans wear their heart on their sleeves much more than the Brits do - plus, if my A level politics memory serves me correctly, the American candidates are allowed to spend as much as they can raise via funds for their election campaigns, whereas our parties are limited by statute as to how much they can spend (this may well have changed, or I may be mistaken - politics lessons seem so long ago now). Also, we would just look ridiculous partaking in that sort of bruhaha - do you remember New Liars when they won the '97 election when they were signing and dancing to Things Can Only Get Better? It was just pathetic - B.Liar and his scuzzy mates looked like complete prats.
We don't get to vote for the Prime Minister. The only people who voted for Tony Blair were the few thousand in his constituency.
Hey tory boy scuba say what you like but the economy is in the best shape it's been for years.
Our parties conferences are heading that way fast, we just don't take any notice of them, that's the only difference (for most of us anyway) jills, the bushettes may look 16 but they are 22, old enough even for the daughters of a fundamentalist to drink.
yeah, but they WEREN'T old enough when they both got caught and charged, just after Daddy Dearest took office!
