With various churches and chapels across the country doing their bit for the environment. From a religious point of view, If we are all supposed to be sinners- who will be saved if the planet's cohesion is weakening?
At which point do you think God is going to use his super glue and make it all better?
And what if there isn't a nice cosy planet to hop on to?
(Sorry, this may not sound optimistic but still a valid question I think).

If we hadn't wasted our time and energy over the millenia fighting over bits of land or whose myths are the best we could have been off and exploring space and finding alternatives to Earth by now. And now we have nuclear weapons the nutters who more fervantly believe that their myths are the best may end up wiping us all out.
Stupidity will kill us all in the end.
Frankly we don't deserve to survive.

What exactly do you mean by the planet's cohesion is weakening?
The Earth is held together by gravity - the mutual attraction of all the mass in it and as we are actually gaining mass (albeit just a few tonnes a year) from meteorites I can't see any prospect of the Earth splitting up and floating off into space.
I suggest you adopt a different domesday scenario - there are many to choose from. The super-volcano under the US is a good one

Nothing is guaranteed. No more than we think the rock we stand on is safe and then earthquakes quickly change our view.
I wasn't so much asking the question from a science point of view but as a hypothetical scenario for people of devout belief in a god and hopefully our supposed salvation if assuming something of that nature did happen.
Thanks for the info on the super U.S. volcano, I'll look into that (not literally-I hope).

Sorry being a bit pedantic.
It's always struck me that even in this day and age religious people cling to the notion of humanity's special status in the same way they used to cling to the notion of the Earth's special place at the centre of the cosmos.
I have absolutely no doubt that just as that position shifted when the evidence became undeniable, man's unique position would move if intelligent aliens ever landed in the middle of Hyde Park and held a press conference.
The idea that humanity is alone in the universe is not really necessary to the core of religous thought on core concepts like sin and salvation and ethics. It wouldn't be such a shift to see God creating other creatures in the larger cosmos.
It would however perhaps lead their view to be less human-centric.
After all if we all vanished overnight the Universe wouldn't blink an eye - maybe God would just say "Well they were warned ! - Now those lizard things going round Rigel are long overdue another prophet "

Maybe Llamatron's right. Perhaps we are next - but extinction will be self-inflicted in our case.
Luna, if, for example, we blew the earth to pieces, no one would be saved in the physical sense unless, as you say we find a nice cosy planet to hop on to - and then it will only be those important enough or rich enough to buy a ticket! Christians would be alright though, because although their bodies would be destroyed, their souls would be saved. Not much hope for the rest of us then, is there!
Jake, some Christians still believe wholeheartedly that human beings are alone in the universe and that the earth is a special place. According to them, it's the only planet that god has any interest in because he created the whole universe to enable the people of earth to tell the seasons - and to glorify himself. We've have discussions on this in recent weeks, and believe it or not, this is what they believe.
I really look forward to the day when science discovers intelligent life on other planets. Perhaps then we earthlings will get our act together and all the greed, selfishness and nonsensical religious fervour that goes on here will cease! Hallelujah to that!

No need for apologies jake. There's nothing wrong with being passionate about a subject that is useful to you, so pedantic is okay by me.
Maybe it is because religious people's only basis for truth comes from this planet.
In fact anyone's knowledge and not just followers of the Bible derives from our experiences on this planet.
We question the alternatives and even find interest in them because there is always that element of the unknown and any evidence we may have of other worldly cultures is often compared with the obvious, already existing on Earth.
I would like to think that our time on this planet hasn't been a total waste and this wonky ball of rock that contains us has thrown enough reminders to it's occupants to cease fighting, polluting the air, water and earth, killing trees and using up all natural resources but we (humans) will never learn. So we just complete the cycle but ignore the messages.

Regard God as the owner of a rented house.
The rented house of course being the earth.
If you get bad tenants, who mistreat it, the owner does NOT burn down the house, he simply gets rid of the bad tenants.
(PSALM 37:9) For evildoers themselves will be cut off, But those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth.
(PSALM 37:11) But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.
(PSALM 37:29) The righteous themselves will possess the earth, And they will reside forever upon it.
(PSALM 37:34) Hope in Jehovah and keep his way, And he will exalt you to take possession of the earth. When the wicked ones are cut off, you will see [it].
The earth will remain. along with those who God judges to be good tenants.
The rest are no longer in existence.
(REVELATION 21:8) But as for the cowards and those without faith and those who are disgusting in their filth and murderers and fornicators and those practicing spiritism and idolaters and all the liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur. This means the second death.
