cat that is constantly after food
Hi everyone
got a cat - got two, in fact - one of which is constantly haranguing me for food. If i get up to walk out of the living room, he's there in a shot, trotting alongside me like Crufts, and then mews at the food cupboard, scratching it. he gets fed [a healthy portion] twice a day with a lighter portion before I go to bed. He's been getting little top ups as of late but what's going on? Is this normal?

Mine do it, every time I get up to go to the loo during the night they dart down the stairs and wait for me to go down. I know that they are no hungry because their Iams is out. They are just hoping that they might get a sachet of meat or two.
Your cats have you trained - such is life!

yep totally normal! Mine gets dry food for breakfast and a mixture for dinner - same every day but every morning when I put his dry food down he sniffs it, looks at me with an expression that says "do you really think I'm going to eat that?!" then he walks off. 5 minutes later when he's realised that this ploy is not going to work (which it never does!) he's head down in the bowl munching away.

I have to confess that with my last cat I fell for it. We started with Iams as food and a sachet as a treat once a week. In the end he was wolfing down the sachets - about 4 or 5 per day. Never ate the meat, he just licked the jelly off.
Cats - they are all opportunists, evil and manipulative, wake you up during the night because they are bored, serve no use (no guard cats or guide cats) and yet are so damned cute and lovable.
