Help is cheap

Help is cheap, but thanks don't cost much either.
Do any of you regulars sometimes wonder if the question asker has even taken the trouble to see if the question has been answered?
Some may say that 'Thanks in advance' (or worse,'TIA') is sufficient. I find these words meaningless, as they seem to take help for granted.

It also lets the person know that you have seen the answers they've given. This normally elicits a thank you response.
I once read a great letter in the paper on this very topic. A woman had held a shop door open for someone who had just sailed through without a word. So she said 'Excuse me, I didn't hear what you said'. The person turned back and said 'I didn't say anything'. The first lady then said 'Oh, for a minute, I thought I heard you say 'thank you'! The person went bright red and muttered a thank you.

Having lived more than my 4 score I have experienced the changes in courtesy over the years.
Nowadays I just say "You're welcome" if I don't receive a "thank you".
When asked why I said it I say "Oh. I thought you said thankyou".
Try it folks!
Love to everyone and thank you all for your past help.
