I know they give a lot for charity and do tremendous work here and abroad but are they in danger of putting people right off with overexposure?
It is everywhere on TV , in shops etc etc
Maybe I am just getting older and crabbier!

I think that is so unfair. You would be better searching the net for a charity you are interested in and sending money directly to them. Dont you think? We have to pay money at work tomorrow just to wear red - I know no-one can make you but will make you feel bad if you dont pay. I do support a home I visited in Africa plus a cancer charity which means alot to my family so why should I feel bad.
Quizmaster - They only do it every 2 years I think, and were one of the first charities to go for the whole "singling-out-a day thing " (I think?) so I think they are excused the overexposure. fair play to them, it works. It doesnt put me off but having said that I havent got a red nose or Jamie's whatever. I'll *probably* donate on the night !
Jeannie - you're absolutely right. Any right minded person who is going to donate to anything should check out what they do with the money. If RND isnt for you then don't feel peer pressure to join in - you know they could donate without dressing up, so by definition they dress up for fun. If it aint your idea of fun or you give your money elsewhere then so be it. Be comfortable in the moral high ground that will be overpopulated tomorrow.

What's put me off was reading about where some of the money raised went. I think it was the last Comic Relief where they showed clips of water pipes being laid and bringing water right into a village. The joy on the villagers' faces as they had water at the turn of a tap was fantastic. There was also an old man who lived in not more than a shed with a dirt floor which he slept on. The DIY SOS team was there and as an extra thing they laid a concrete floor down for him and raised his bed to a normal height. These sort of video clips tug at your heart and we normally send off 50 or 100. This particular time we sent off 600. I know the money raised is used for projects here, not just in Africa but a few months' later, I read that 200.000 had been given so that gay people could meet other gay people. Honestly, i'm not homophobic but there are enough gay pubs and clubs for people to meet each other and this was not what I was giving money for. It's turned me right off the whole idea and I wouldn't give a penny to support Red Nose Day.
Got to agree with QuizmasterG
I feel the same as you do, or maybe I am also geting crabbier and older too.
I give to my chosen charities evry so often , but I feel this is just in your face.
My Husband made a pledge a few years ago but I prefer to donate when and if I wish to do so, not feel pressure into making donations to charities. You get it at work, on the TV, in the stores.
Nope, I am afraid I will not be watching the Tv tonight.
