cold calling

Ive just had a call from a nice sounding gentleman asking if ive heard of the "latest government scheme in (my) area."
I asked what it was and was told that it was assistance in writing off unsecured loans and debts such as credit cards. I said so this is an IVA that you are offering here and was told yes it was. The chap was politely given my opinion of such a call
I cant believe that these companies are trawling for business this way, surely there are vunerable people out there who will be ripped off when in a desperate financial situation and also people who will see this as an easy way to pay for a lifestyle that they cant afford.

One day I was at home and received 6 cold callers trying to get me to commit to one thing or another. Unless people have 'unknown' numbers blocked, you cannot stop them. This comes at a price with the providers i.e. BT. The days when if your number was ex-directory meant it was ex-directory are long gone! They haunt me even at weekends and it shouldn't be allowed. I agree, vulnerable people will be taken in by their sales pitch. Something should be done.
we even have the telephone preference thing and shouldnt be getting these calls but i get at least 1 a day from people saying ive got a mobile phone etc.
But Im annoyed that this company tried to make out that it was a wonderful offer from the government. Where are the calls from people with wonderful offers for companies who are owed money? never hear of those do you.
Im annoyed with myself now as i didnt take their details, i couldve passed it to trading standards or someone.

I hope that you were able to get a business card from him. If you did, I recommend you send it on to the Trading Standards Department of your local council. as they may wish to follow it up. You will find their address in the phone directory or they will undoubtedly have a website. If you do this you may well be doing a favour to other more vulnerable people who are in financial difficulties but naive in understanding how they could be ripped off.
