Britain to get a nuclear weapons programme?

Nuclear weapons. A constant talking point in Britain over the past 50 years. Now it seems we are destined to have a �20 billion plan to create a Trident missile programme. Politicians say that we need the deterrent in today's uncertain world. Add to this that the Tories back the plans and it seems that we are likely to go ahead with the programme. Do you think that nuclear weapons are the answer to keeping Britain safe? Can the government justify spending that sort of money on nuclear weapons?

Great Britain - The Falkland Islanders consider themselves to be British and all have British Citizenship.

So we should have nuked the Argies then, right oh! Get real vic, I think you know what I'm talking about on this. The Argies invadinf the Islands was not attempt at regeme change in Britain, do you think it was next stop London then? It was an attempt by Galtieri to capture some territory to move focus fom other problems at home, try again.

Okay - on your basis, the last time anyone tried invading the UK was the Spanish Armada - the last time anyone did a regime change in this country was 1066 - so why spend Billions on nukes?

There is no country (that I know of) that could get close to trying a regime change in this country bearing in mind the fact that there are other countries with nuclear weapons

Do you think that the German, Swiss, Polish etc etc people must be shaking in their boots concerned that someone may invade them?

Lets get over the fact that we used to be a super power and rule the waves and start to realise that we are 'just another' country now.

I can predict the future as much as the Germans, Swiss, Japanese etc.

As I said, I'm sure they are all awake tonight scared witless that the bogeyman / terrorist state will get them as they have no way of defending themselves!
