ive got an fiat punto mk1 it sounds like the batterys dead when i turn it over. when i bumped it it started ok then further into travelling in it the cars electrics where dim the window wipers were really slow then the car was starting to fail like it had run out of petrol then stalled i had lots of petrol in it at the time. i reckon its the alternator but mabey someone else has a point of view.
Get a voltmeter and check the battery voltage with the ignition off - then start the car and check it again it should have risen from around 12v up to near 14v - if it didn't most likely the alternator is knackered.
Is there a red battery warning lihght on on the dash ?
yea the battery lights on when the cars running all the time. i managed to get a new battery so i swaped it over and the car started fine, ran fine.(battery light stayed on) but when i drove it round the block to see if it was ok, the cars electrics started to fail my headlamps whent dim i drove it home turnt the engine off tried starting it again and it wouldnt turnover (battery dead). got a quote for a new alternator 80 does that sound reasonable?
