How do texas holdem poker satelights work?

if you want to play in an event you cant afford.
like the 10k main event at the world series.
you can play in a satellite for say 1050.
1 out of 10 players will win a seat.
so if the qualifier has 70 people in it 7 seats are up for grabs.
supersattellites are in my oppinion a waste of money they are like a crap shoot because the blinds move to fast.
the longer the rounds the more advantage to the better player.
