Perhaps you could try to identify where they are "living" in the house and then see if you can block their access. Problem is they are clever little devils and will usually find a way in if they are determined enough. Do you have a cat? Mine bring live mice in which I then have to catch and release - could this have happened to you?
We have had mice in our office we have a huge gap under of office door so it just comes and gos when it wants and climbs in our bins to eat food we leave from lunch so I would say
1) dont leave food around keep it in closed tubs and the bin lid closed and not accessible to the mouse.
2) block holes in walls and attach draft excluders to bottom of doors if there is a huge gap
3) buy humaine traps I bought two though and they never worked so buy different types of humaine traps if possible ..put them down where the mice have been seen bait them with chocolate or peanut butter and leave the traps next to walls in sheltered/hidden areas...ie. the mouse has to feel confident about entering the trap if you placed the trap in the middle of the room it would be too scared to go inside.
