When making a call to emergency services on a mobile phone, who and where recieves the call and how do they know which fire, police or ambulance station to connect you to as they don't know your location?.
I don't think you get to speal to the actual fire station / police station or whatever, you speak to an operator at something a bit like a call centre and they log the call for the appropriate force from the area you are in.
Mobile phones are connected to the local 'cell' when you are out and about, so if you dial the emergency number (112 is one int. default) - it will know to connect you to the operator centre local to that cell.
