bad tomatos

I have two tomato plants that are producing wonderful tomatos until they just start to turn and then they start to rot or get a mold on the bottom of them. They are not touching anything. Could it be to much water? At times the plant wilts so I know it needs water. They are in Large pots on my deck.

This sounds like Blossom end rot which is usually due to patchy watering.You shouldn't let the plant get to the state where it is wilting before you water it.Probably too late for this years plants better luck next year.

Hi Kimmiekay, I agree with Greenfingers that is does sound like blossom end rot, which actually comes from a calcium deficiency induced by water stress. Take a look here. http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/tomatoproblemsolver/index .html You might want to consider watering your toms next year with a tablespoon of milk in the water and watering on a more regular schedule so the soil doesn't dry out. Consider using 40% compost mixed into your planting mix. Newt
